Hollywood East Apartments
Built in 1970 the Hollywood East residential tower is owned and operated by Home Forward. The 14-story concrete structure contains 286 apartments that provide permanent housing for very low-income elderly people and persons with disabilities. KASA architects was selected as part of a design-build team with Walsh Construction for a $16 million renovation of the fully-occupied building. The scope of the building improvements included renovation of the first-floor community spaces, installation of a commercial kitchen, seismically strengthening the first floor soft-story, replacing emergency power systems, replacing the entire plumbing system including the supply and waste pipes and domestic hot water heating system, installing energy recovery ventilators for all residential units, improving on-site accessibility and reconstructing the frontage improvements. KASA’s services included a capital needs assessment, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, permitting and construction administration.
