KASA architects worked with Central City Concern to improve the energy performance of this historic seven-story 1912 concrete frame apartment building. The improvements included replacing the upper floor windows with high performance triple-paned fiberglass windows, installing new unit heaters with integrated window sensors, decommissioning the central boiler, installing high efficiency water heaters, and constructing the first phase of an energy recovery ventilator. The improvements cut energy usage by nearly 40%. In addition to the energy efficiency improvements, the construction scope included fire/life safety upgrades and structural and exterior façade repair.
Our services included completing a design review application package and construction documents within the rigorous four-week time-frame.
